End of Summer Gifts!

The package I sent the end of July has been received in Colombia and I have gotten pictures of:
Johel and a letter from his mother (he is too young to write),
Adriana and a letter from her,
Ana and a letter from her.

The package I sent had 3 backpacks filled with clothes and supplies (for each of my kids in that field office area).

My computer is down so no way to post the photos yet, however I will be posting them as soon as I can.
It seems as though shipping children's items together as long as separated in the box is an ok idea. =)

Letter from Johel & Claudia

In the following Claudia, Johel's mother, says that Johel's Younger brother is 4. I thought that he was 2 by the information given from Children International. So I am somewhat unsure of the brother age. Although I doubt the mother, Claudia would write the wrong age of her child.

This is the letter from Johel's mother Claudia since he is too young to write:

Dear Miss Candace,

I greet you and I hope you are in good health. Johel is very grateful and happy to receive your letter. As for your question, I tell you that Johel's family consists of 4 members. His little brother is4 years old, his mother is 27, his father is 37 and Johel is 7. He likes to play basketball with his friends. He is attending school and is doing very well there. He is learning so much because he is very smart. His favorite subject is religion. He also has a dog called Capitan. He hopes to hear from you very soon. He wishes God save and bless you. Dear Miss Candace:

I hope you are in good health. I tell you that I am a very studious child. I like to help my mother around the house. I belong to a group of the Catholic religion named "Angelitos por la paz".

I am loving and kind. I would like to get in contact with you often in order to get to know each other more. I am attending school and I am doing very well with my studies. I am a very responsible child. My favorite food is roasted chicken.

Johel's family consists of his parents Jorge and Claudia and his younger brother Sebastian.

The child's father works as bricklayer and currently he is working at a building close to his house.

Johel's mother is a housewife, and she is very dedicated to her children and her husband.

Currently the house is half built.

It has 3 multi-use rooms and a bathroom.

The 3 multi-use rooms have roof.

One room with dirt floor, the other two rooms with cement floor in terrible conditions.

They own the house because of "staying", but they do not have deeds since the terrain was invaded.

However, there is no risk of jeopardy.

The mother said they would like to put cement floor on the rooms at least.

In general, their living conditions are as follows:

There is a window in regular conditions with a protection bar in the front house.

In the entrance of the house there is a tin plate door and the first two rooms have doors

In one of the multi-use rooms, there are a few kitchen items; the second room is used as a living room and dinning room; in the third room, they sleep.

There is a double bed where the parents sleep with Jhoel's brother, and Johel sleeps in a small cradle which is already very small for him.

During the visit it was noticed that the family is very poor, and they think that provided they get house repairs and a bed, they are going to sleep more comfortably and this is going to improve their life quality.

The Infrastructure Assistant assured that the family really needs the repairs mentioned above, and the child's father committed himself to do the repairs within the agreed space of time, so it won't be necessary to pay for labor.

I did not realize the living conditions were this bad.

Adriana is such a happy child despite all the hardships her short life has seen.

Her situation helps me to remember to stay positive no matter the situation I find myself in.

I hope we are able to give this special girl all the items she is in need of at this time.

I will post up pictures when received and a link once the fundraiser has began.

FAMILY SPECIAL NEEDS
Though it is necessary to repair the house, we don't recommend investing in it because Adriana´s grandmother owns the house and the title passes by inheritance to her children when she passes away. Adriana´s new house is not fit to live comfortably. They are living in overcrowded conditions when it is time for bed. Adriana, her siblings and parents are sleeping in a double bed all together. Therefore, we recommend providing the family with some basic commodities like beds, fan, light mattresses, and bed clothes.

Additional comments:
The single bed is just for Adriana and the bunk bed is for Adriana´ siblings.
The pictures of the bedroom and the living room belong to the new space they are living now and the pictures of the bathroom and kitchen are the common areas of the house because the whole family makes use of them.

The weight of the entire package is 20.6 pounds.

Was shipped as Priority Mail with USPS for $95.
